news:

Well, we are in the home stretch for 2008 - with three titles still to come before the end of the year: Madder Lake's Stillpoint. Died Pretty's Free Dirt and the never before released Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs 1972 live concerts from the Myer Music Bowl and Festival Hall: Long Live Rock N' Roll.

We managed to put most of our planned releases this year. Some (Mighty Kong, Madder Lake) had been coming for some time, so it was good to finally get them out.

Next year, we are looking to reissue, amongst others: Dragon's Universal Radio and Scented Gardens For The Blind. Madder Lake's Butterfly Farm, 2 each from Blackfeather, Mackenzie Theory, and Mark Gillespie, and Autumn's Comes Autumn.

We will also be working on a deluxe reissue of X's seminal debut Aspirations

The Rub And Tug label will release its first title - the Speed Demons' Play Hard Go Fast in November, with a couple of Depression reissues slated for early 2009.

Thanks for all the kind words and suggestions - keep 'em coming!

Levi Smith's Clefs - Empty Monkey (deluxe 2CD version)

Barrie McAskill was the lead singer, band leader and driving force of one of the greatest progressive soul / R&B institutions in the annals of Australian rock and pop history: Levi Smith's Clefs. Their sole LP, the pioneering heavy soul classic Empty Monkey, has been a much requested title in our reissue series, as it meets both collector’s requirements: not only it is very collectable, it is a bona-fide Aussie classic (possibly the best Aussie 70’s LP you’ve never heard).

Mighty Kong - All I Wanna Do Is Rock

Tamam Shud - Goolutionites And The Real People

Tamam Shud released their masterpiece, the concept album Goolutionites and the Real People in 1970. Ian McFarlane calls it "one of the truly great Aussie progressive rock albums" and it also distinguished them as one of the first local bands to tackle environmental issues in their songs. It is now extremely rare and one of the most collectible albums of the period. 6 bonus tracks.

Various Artists: The Complete Havoc Singles 1971-1973

Melbourne ’s short-lived Havoc Records label ran from 1971 to 1973 and released landmark releases from some of Australia ’s greatest ever bands. The monster selling Aztecs Live! At Sunbury (AVSCD001), and the all-time Aztecs’ classic ‘Most People I Know Think That I’m Crazy’ were the biggest sellers, but the label also released notable platters from Lobby Loyde (with the Coloured Balls and The Wild Cherries), Carson, Thump’n Pig & Puff’n Billy, Michael Turner In Session, Ash, Chook (best Aussie band name ever?) and Star Spangled Banger.

Star Spangled Banger: Star Spangled Banger

One of the rarest Australian albums ever - a heady mix of English flavored progressive rock (Family, Cressida), reflective piano ballads and a hint of Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band like lunacy!

Spectrum Milesago (2CD)

A progressive rock milestone. The double album was originally released on EMI’s Harvest Records imprint (home to artists such as Pink Floyd, Kevin Ayers, The Move and Deep Purple) – and you couldn’t find a more appropriate label for such spaced-out progressive psych!

Harem Scarem - Pilgrim's Progress

Harem Scarem emerged from Melbourne's mid-80's indie scene, their sound was infused with a heady mix of punk spirit and Stax soul that also made them contemporaries of the likes of The Gun Club and the Beasts Of Bourbon.

Mandu - To The Shores Of His Heaven

Simply one of the best albums ever released in this country. If you are a fan of Tim Buckley, Van Morrision or Terry Reid, then you owe it to yourself to give this a listen. Beautiful string arrangements, once in a lifetime line-up (Phil Manning & Barry Sullivan from Chain - Gary Young from Daddy Cool - Lobby's in there somewhere...) and Mandu's incredible voice.

Kush: Presents...Snow White and The Eight Straights

Think of Bowie channelling Sinatra, fronting Blood, Sweat & Tears (playing Chicago covers) and you might get an idea of what Kush sounded like! Fronted by the androgynous and enigmatic Jeff Duff and backed by a startlingly original progressive octet, Kush's 1974 debut album is one of the all-time classic Australian LP's (includes the singles ‘Easy Street’, ‘McArthur Park’ and ‘Wait’ - and the epic ‘Christopher John’).

coming soon...Levi Smith's Clefs, Madder Lake, Died Pretty...

The aztec music reissue label began in 2005. Our primary focus is to reissue classic Australian titles from the early 1970’s thru to the early 1980’s (with some exceptions) We have enlisted the services of some of Australia’s best music writers and researchers to help make our releases of the highest quality. We are also working directly with the artists where possible. In most cases, we will be reissuing original titles, not compilations.
